Senior Student-Athlete Award

The Senior Student Athlete Award
● Amount: $1000 (per award)
● Number of Awards: Minimum of 2 (1 male/1 female)
Description
The Colgan Athletic Boosters is proud to announce its offer to award graduating senior athletes
a scholarship to assist in furthering their post-secondary education goals.
Qualification Criteria
☐ Student athlete must be a graduating senior for the academic school year 2022-2023
☐ Student/Family must be a current member of Colgan Athletic Boosters
☐ Student/Family met, or exceeded, the volunteer hour requirements for Colgan Athletic
Boosters (2 shifts-per athlete-per sport)
☐ Student athlete must have participated in at least one CHS Varsity sport during his or her
Senior year
☐ Student athlete must have represented CHS in a positive manner, as well as consistently
demonstrated sportsmanship in all athletic contests
☐ Student athlete must have a good disciplinary record with Colgan High School
☐ Student athlete shall be intending to enroll in an accredited junior college, technical school,
or 4-year college or university for the academic school year 2023-2024Colgan Athletic Boosters, Inc.
INSTRUCTIONS
Selection
● Colgan Athletic Booster Scholarship Committee will be comprised of the Colgan Athletic Boosters
Executive Board.
● If an applying student athlete’s parent is also on the Scholarship Committee, the parent will not
evaluate nor vote on any packages.
● As a condition of award, each scholarship recipient must sign and return a form entitled
“Acceptance of Scholarship Agreement.” In this agreement, the recipient will confirm that they
intend to attend post-secondary education that meets the requirements of the scholarship.
● Awardee will provide the Colgan Athletic Boosters with the name and address of the technical
school, college, university or other continuing education institute prior to
August 1, 2023, to which the award will be sent. Send school contact information to:

Application Materials & Process
● Application packages are available from the Colgan College and Career Counselor, Dr. Byrd, or
www.colganathleticboosters.com
● All packages consist of 4 parts:
1. Application (See content below - Cut & paste into Word doc and add your details)
2. Typed Essay (Calibri 12pt font)
In 300 words, or less, explain:
How has your experience as a High School Athlete prepared you for your future after High
School?
3. Coach’s Endorsement
● Student athlete will need to submit one letter of endorsement from one of their current or
former coaches (it is preferred that the endorsement be from a Head Coach).
4. Letter of Recommendation
● Student athlete will need to submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher,
employer, or other community member outside of the student athlete’s sporting
community. This letter should speak to your strengths as an individual, leader and outline
any accomplishments separate from being an athlete.
